Working towards a beautiful bathroom

We have a very small bathroom in our current apartment and its so hard to get ready in the morning. Also for Christmas I got some more makeup and beauty products as gifts so now I had to fit even more in there. Every morning I'm digging around trying to find all my stuff to be able to get ready and it's getting really old. I already had some shelves in place for some larger items but it was time I get the smaller stuff together. I went out today and bought a new caboodle case for all my make up so now it's all in one place and organized! I didn't want to throw my makeup brushes in the box though so strolling through Target I found these cute footed candle holders on clearance and some rocks and stones that were on clearance too so I filled the candle holders with the pretty glass stones I found and now I have some nice holders to store my brushes in and they are so pretty. Colored sand works great too! I might still look for some ribbon to tie around the tops too. The rocks hold the brushes up in place and keep the from pressing against each other and loosing shape and transfer colors amongst the brushes. I love it and it was a cute and easy way to dress up the bathroom a little.

New year, new resolutions

Happy 2013!  So one of my New Years resolutions is to "make things".  So vague, I know, but it emcompasses a lot to me.  I want to make things for my home and art and new meals for myself and my boyfriend and our friends.  I got the idea to "make things" because for Christmas I made my boyfriend a painting and I just loved painting again, I haven't done it since probably high school.  Also there are so many times I'm out shopping or online and I see cool things and I'm always thinking, 'wow, I could totally make that'!  So now I'm putting myself to the test and seeing what I can actually do.  I'm using a blog to help me keep track of my progress.  I want to look back at the end of the year and see that I stuck to this resolution and see be able to see everything I've done and the progress I'm making.  So like I said before this is going to consist of art, crafts, cooking and I'll probably include some other random things that I get excited about like fashion, beauty, photography, etc.

So I think Ill start by just posting the project I made my boyfriend for Christmas.  Since we have been dating he has always been collecting Buddah heads.  Look around our house and you will see one in just about every room!  We've also been trying to finish decoraing our apartment and in our spare bedroom/office we have had a big blank space one the wall we've been wanting to find something for and I've had a couple of blank canvases laying around that a friend gave me before she moved so I thought making a painting for him and doing a Buddah head would be prefect.  It was a big canvas and I knew this would be a big undertaking since I haven't painted in so long.  I started slowly and just painted a day or two a week for only a little bit at a time but in no time I was loving it and trying to paint any chance I got.  It took a little time but I got back in the swing of things and loved seeing it come together.  I love seeing how the paints mix together on the canvas and they way they blend and what you can create.  I think from the start of it to the end I learned a lot about how to make the paints work for me and to not force anything, just let it happen on the canvas.  It still amazes me what can happen and come out of a little paint.  I wish I had more pictures of the progress but all I have is the finished product.  I think it looks a lot better in person than through pictures but here it is........
